Graphic design

I was given the letter 'F' to work with for the next few weeks as part of our graphic brief. The theme of the brief is 'state of the nation'. I brainstormed words that began with 'F' and had relevance to the theme.  The word I choose to go with was 'Finance'.

For the past day or two I've been doing thumbnails to do with finance and trying to get the letter 'F' to represent it.
So far, here is what I came up with.

Here's just some images I photocopied from a book in the library that I thought were interesting and different ways of showing the letter 'F'.

Typography

So this week was spent doing typography for the word we were given the previous week.
Here are the thumbnails I produced:

This was made from leaves.

This was made from grass.

Made from rice.

Illustration. Week one.

Week one of viscom was working with illustrations. We were all given a word and I got the word 'CULTIVATE'.

  • Cultivate means to prepare the soil for growing crops.
  • To grow an interest in a relationship or hobby.
  • To grow ideas, education and skill.
I spent all last week investigating these definitions with thumbnail sketches.

Then for Friday we had to pick two illustrations and with Patricia's advice I choose the idea of a leaf with the veins forming little illustrations within the leaf.

However my second illustration is going to be used in my final assessment on the second Friday and so I'm working on it, improving on fine detail.

Graphic desingers

Drew Flaherty
An Australian designer.
His work really interests me because he draws over images to create a busy scene. His images don't make sense but are visually attractive. Compostion is a key area in his designs.

Jasper Goodall
An English illustrator. His work is often found in music, fashion and advertising, he also pruduces prints.
I really like theese images because the colour used is really eye cathing and transparent, a sense of fantasy is a part of it. The images are simple and have simple perspective.

Jeremyville
A grapic designer/autho. He has worked with Converse shoes and has released toys to do with his designs.
I love his work because its so poppy and childish. I love his cartoon style with block colours. The images are flat and very busy.

Two weeks of print over and now onto animation!

So for the last two weeks I had been in the print elective with Des and Fiona. I learned so much in print, how to do drypoint, woodblock and I improved on my monoprinting technique a lot.  We didn't need to use our blogs much so hence why I'm only updating my blog now!

Animation:
So yesterday I started animation. We have to create a 15 second stop motion. The heading I picked was I opened the door and... so I got to brainstorming and came up with a whacky random idea! I talked to Paul about it and he told me to go for it, no matter how crazy it was. The crazier the better!

Okay so here's my story so far, well knowing me I'll probably add a zombie penguin or flesh eating marshmallows somewhere along the way!
  • A cat is walking along and suddenly spots a door with a sign saying STAY OUT written on it. The cat stared at the door for a second and then looks back at the camera with a cheeky grin.
  • The cat opens the doors and walks through it into a seemingly empty room.
  •  He comes across a wooden box and he stops and stares at it curiously before dropping to the ground and crawling towards it.
  • The box starts to make noise so the cat pokes it. The box then jumps into the air and continues to make noise.
  • Suddenly a penguin flies out of the box sitting on a UFO. The penguin hops off it and walks away.
  • The cat stares in shock as the UFO slowly moves towards him.
  • The UFO stops over the cat and shines a beam of light onto him.
  • It ends with the cat staring at the camera scared and confused.
